This week’s startup develops an environmentally-friendly alternative to disposable plastics that uses renewable resources and it is 100% biodegradable and compostable.
Conventional plastic stays in the environment for up to 1000 years. If we continue to use this type of plastic as we do today, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean in less than 30 years.
This week’s Impact Startup is PlasticFri, which has developed an environmentally-friendly alternative to disposable plastics. Their technology can turn renewable resources such as agricultural-waste and non-edible plants into a material that looks and works like plastic, but it is 100% biodegradable and compostable as well as completely non-toxic.
– We are on a mission to change the way we use plastic, says founder Max Mohammadi.
PlasticFri fits directly to 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals: 11 (sustainable cities and communities),12 (responsible consumption and production), 13 (climate action), 14 (life below water), and 15 (life on land).
