Startups and scales, make your voice heard… again!

The first barometer showed that covid19 crisis had seriously impacted on their business. Now we are conducting a second survey together with SISP to get a more updated picture of the effects of the crisis to keep up the pace of dialogue with our decision-makers. 

At the beginning of April, we sent a survey to startups and scaleups all over Sweden to see how the covid19 crisis had impacted on their business. After analyzing the 480+ answers that we received, we could see clearly that their situation was critical.

These are some of the conclusions of the first barometer on the effects of the coronavirus crisis on the Swedish startups and scaleups, that we conducted together with SISP – Swedish Incubators & Science Parks:

• 7 out of 10 startups are in risk and could disappear within 6 months
• 75% believed that it is harder to get funding now
• 51% experienced a decline in sales since the beginning of March
• 75% stated that at least half of planned projects had been canceled or postponed
• Companies with less than 10 employees had to dismiss 19% of their staff

During the last weeks, we have had meetings with the Parliament’s Committee on Industry and Trade, the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, the Swedish IT and Telecom Industries, the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, the Swedish Energy Agency, and Vinnova – Sweden’s Innovation Agency, where we discussed the results of the first barometer. We can assure you that it has found an echo inside those organizations, even if it takes time to turn it into concrete actions. They are aware that the efforts that have been made so far might not have suited many startups and scaleups.

We know that the current situation continues to affect our startups and scaleups. That’s why we are conducting a second survey to get a more updated picture of the current impact of the crisis in their business to keep up the pace of dialogue with our decision-makers. This is a new opportunity to make their voice heard by the authorities and the industry.
